Care Planning, including:-
I am a private client solicitor who specialises in later life planning – helping clients and their families navigate a planned path into older age.
I have close links with various professionals such as accountants, IFAs, care coordinators and care providers to help meet my clients’ needs. I take particular pleasure in helping an older client make a happy and comfortable transition from independent to assisted living. Often, this will then encourage the next generation to start planning for their own later life. I aim to offer a truly ‘one-stop shop’ for vulnerable clients who need consistency, close personal relationships with their advisors and long term assistance.
As this is a very specialised area, increasingly, I am finding that I am being approached by professionals, including other solicitors, to assist with their clients.
I have a degree in Law from Leeds Metropolitan University and completed my post graduate diploma in legal practice in York. However, I have been practising as a private client solicitor on the South Coast since 2000. In 2010 I started to specialise in later life planning. At my previous firm I created and managed the first team in the South East to concentrate on the holistic needs of the older client. This culminated in, amongst other national recognition, a Law Society Excellence Award in 2015.
I have authored two research papers on the state of the Care Sector in the South East. As a result, I have close links with local care providers and help them understand their older clients and their own strategic business needs.
I am a member of Solicitors for the Elderly, Action on Elder Abuse and am a Department of Health ‘Dignity Champion’. I am also a Dementia Friends Champion, meaning that I can train individuals or company staff members to become Dementia Friends.
In terms of the local community, I am a very proud trustee of local children’s charity the Starr Trust and I provide support to the Brighton & Hove branch of Age UK.
Whilst generally a fair weather cyclist, I do try to complete big events for the Starr Trust from time to time. These include cycling through Death Valley in the USA (which apparently recorded one of the highest temperatures on earth, albeit not whilst I was there) and a four day ride from Cornwall to Brighton.
Off the bike and when the British summer allows, I am also known to be out and about in a kayak or on a paddle board. I am otherwise kept busy by my partner and our two girls.
